save_usa: S.A.V.E

S.A.V.E (Support American Volunteer Efforts) is a nonprofit organization campaigning to pass bill HR4387, which is currently under review in the Ways & Means Committee of Congress.

If the bill were to be passed it would offer up to $2,000 per year in a tax rebate to every volunteer.

Volunteers are two a half times more likely to donate back to non-profits where they volunteer, and their communities. Rather than giving tax breaks to the wealthiest 1% of society this would help to put money back where it is sorely needed.

SAVE is a grass-roots organization. Our office has a staff of three full time employees and several volunteers. We're in the midst of a nation wide press release, selling the idea of SAVE to the media, non-profit and volunteer agencies around the country.

The only way to pass this bill is to let congress know that Americans support it.

zanity: cross posted in my journal

Cindy Sheehan

I just thought her story was pretty righteous and wanted to post it for everyone to see. I'm not sure how many people are familiar with her, but she's the mom of a soldier who was killed in Iraq, and is now camped outside of Bush's ranch, waiting for a chance to ask him why her son had to die. If any American's need support, I'd think of her.

And the fact that the people that hate her are getting more publicity than her really sickens me. Yahoo News and their reporting on the assholes down the street who set up their own camp to smear Cindy Sheehan just pisses in my cornflakes. The fact that the media is so corrupt that they'd try to smear a mom who's lost a son and wants answers is just so wrong that I can't accept it.

If anyone knows of any support jpegs of Cindy Sheehan, I'd put one up in my livejournal. Please link her page, too - word of mouth just to make sure her point isn't lost to the masses.

If any of you have seen Jennifer Lopez at an award ceremony, party, or in a music video, I'm sure you've noticed that there is a whole lot of fur going on there... well, that fur is real, not faux fur like we had all hoped. PETA has devoted an entire site to breaking this megastar of her bad habit. SEE IT HERE FOR YOURSELF.

This all goes to show us that a movie star isn't always someone to idolize... don't follow in her footsteps! Make the right choice and go fur free!

stellarone9683: [ WWF ]

I read on the PETA2 website that the World Wildlife Fund is "has been actively pressuring government agencies in the U.S., Europe, and Canada to increase the amount of testing that they require for pesticides and other chemicals. The result of the WWF’s lobbying has been the establishment of what threaten to be the largest animal-testing programs of all time."

I want to know if any of you have heard anything about this. I am a member of both sites, and although I trust PETA, I am a bit confused. I am apalled with the fact that PETA says the WWF is for things such as sport hunting, the use of steel traps, whaling, using fur, and even the SEAL HUNT. I cannot believe what I am hearing.

If you have any info, please let me hear it! If you want to read more about this, go HERE))

Thanks all.
